Interagency Custer County Landowner Workshop on May 6, 2017



Custer, SD – A workshop, “Landowners – learn to protect your home and property” will be held on Saturday, May 6 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Outlaw Ranch, 12703 Outlaw Ranch Rd, Custer, SD.

Conference organizers point out that several hundred thousand acres have been affected by mountain pine beetles and wildfire over the 20 years.  Beetle killed pine threaten forest users and increase the risk for high severity wildfires that can devastate homes and property if not prepared. Several agencies are working together to reach out to landowners, provide information and encourage management for more resilient forests across all lands.

Experts will discuss: Preparing your home and property for fire, basic insect, weed and pine management, and technical assistance and cost-sharing programs available to the landowners.

A free lunch will be offered.

The workshop is sponsored by Custer County Conservation District and the South Dakota Family Forest Association.

Cooperating agencies include South Dakota Department of Agriculture – Resource Conservation & Forestry and SDDA -Wildland Fire; USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service; Custer County Weed & Pest; and US Forest Service – Hell Canyon Ranger District.
