The Rapid City National Weather Service is hosting a public open house on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. to Noon.  Visitors will have the opportunity to see how weather forecasts and warnings are issued, learn about historic weather events, and talk to the staff during a free-flowing tour of the facility.  A special weather balloon launch will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. to show how weather data is collected in real time. People may also bring their weather radio receivers (with batteries) to have them programmed.  The Weather Forecast Office is located at 300 East Signal Drive. From the Rapid City Post Office, go south on East Boulevard to the top of the hill in Star Village, then turn left onto East Signal Drive. Go to the end of the street and turn left on Elm Street. Parking is free.  If you have questions about this event, you may call 605-341-9271 between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M. weekdays.
