The Matthews is showcasing local talent in a joint show featuring artists from the Suzie Cappa Art Center in Rapid City and the Northern Hills Training Center in Spearfish. Their work represents the skill and creativity of artists of all abilities in the Black Hills.
“The artists featured are multitalented and their work tells the story of how art can touch the lives of everyone,” says Ava Sauter, The Matthews community outreach manager.
Art residencies with the Northern Hills Training Center take place during the month of September. The art created during the residencies will be on display during the “ArtAbility” show. The show features at least 40 pieces from various artists.
“It has been inspirational working with the Suzie Cappa Art Center and Northern Hills Training Center on this show. These organizations have championed redefining “disability” and have positively changed the lives of many individuals and families in our community. Their work has not only helped to integrate an oftentimes isolated population, but has also provided these artists and community members opportunities for expression and independence,” remarks Sauter.
The next event at The Matthews is the A.J. Croce live concert on Sept. 23. This concert is the kick-off event of the 2016-17 Subscription Series season. Tickets are on sale now. For additional information or to learn about upcoming events, visit www.MatthewsOpera.com.
