600 Bikers Invade Custer For The 19th Annual Mickelson Trail Trek

Custer, SD – Thursday, September 15, 2016, 600 bicycle riders and their families will be eating, shopping and sleeping in Custer for most of the weekend. The 19th Annual Mickelson Trail Trek once again entices bike riders to enjoy the beauty of the heart of the Black Hills as they travel through the scenic valleys, old railroad tunnels, and historic mining towns. Burlington Northern built this rail line over 100 years ago to accommodate the miners who had rushed to the area to pan for gold. In 1983, the rail line wtrailtrekmini2016as abandoned and this incredible trail was envisioned. After years of planning, hard work, and determination the trail became a reality.
In celebration of this reality, the third weekend in September finds hundreds of riders joining together in the Mickelson Trail Trek. This year’s Trail Trek promises to be bigger and better than ever, offering something for everyone.On Friday and Saturday mornings at 8:00 am you can go down to the Custer Chamber of Commerce on Washington St. and cheer them on as they start their rides.This Thursday, early bird check-in will begin at the Custer Chamber of Commerce on Washington Street for the 19th Annual Mickelson Trail Trek. The registration allotment of 600 riders has been filled and no other registration will be accepted.

Dolcee Davenport Custer Chamber of Commerce office manager and Events coordinator said, ” we would love to have more volunteers help with this event at the Custer trail head”. For further information on volunteering please call Dolcee Davenport or Dawn Murray at 605-673-2244

Check -8-9AM Start: Bicycle from Custer to Edgemont (44.5 miles)
– Riders and bikes return to Custer
– Breaks and lunch included
-Chamber Bucks provided for evening meal (see list in registration packet)

-8:00 – 9:00 AM Start: Bicycle from Custer to Rochford (39.5 miles)
-Bicycles stored in secured area in Rochford
-Shuttle busses return riders to Custer
-Breakfast and evening meal on your own
-Breaks and lunch included

-Riders drive to Deadwood Trailhead
-Shuttle buses take riders to Rochford
7:00-9AM Start: Bicycle from Rochford to Deadwood (24 miles)
-Ride ends in Deadwood where participant’s vehicles are parked-Trolley will take you to the pavilion for lunch
-Breakfast on your own
-Breaks included.
