The Central States Fair in Rapid City, SD late Monday afternoon August 22, 2016 was overflowing  with positive energy. Gary Leonard owner of Zach’s Poppin Johnny Ice Cream was busy watching his 80-year-old John Deere “Hit and Miss Engine” turning two wooden ice cream makers while his wife Amber manned the service window in their ice cream trailer. The new Central States Fair Mascot “Sir Loin McCoward” visited with a group of music fans waiting for the Montgomery Gentry Concert to start, and maybe get a piece of fry bread.
Nine members of the Piedmont Usera Family were waiting for the concert to start and posed for a family picture all agreeing that The Central States Fair is a family event where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves. The greased pig event, teams of four attempt to wrestle a totally greased pig, pick it up and place it feet first in a bucket before the clock runs out. Sounds simple. Central States Fair Pig Wrestling for Charity will award two Black Hills charities $1,000.00 for top pig wrestlers in the Women’s and Open Division.
