The Johnson Machine NAPA Auto Parts Demo Derby Saturday night August 20, 2016 at the Central States Fair had near capacity crowd in the grandstand waiting for the 7:00 pm start of the event. Technically, the demo derby is open to anyone with certain restrictions. A  certificate of sanity is not one of the requirements. The interior and exterior are stripped of all glass, all ornaments and all flammable materials, except the driver’s seat. An inside pad is allowed on the driver’s door. Drivers are required to wear  a seatbelt, helmet and eye protection, which needs to be worn at all times while in the vehicle. The rear gas tank is removed and replaced with an event approved 5 gallon gas tank bolted inside the car. The event consist of five heats,with the surviving two cars from each heat becoming eligible for the final championship heat. Qualifying drivers are given 30 minutes to make repairs on their cars before the Champion Heat. The last car standing becomes the Central States Fair Demolition Derby Champion.
