Williams calls on Thune to repudiate Trump

Yankton, SD

Jay Williams, South Dakota’s Democratic U.S. Senate candidate is calling on Senator John Thune to repudiate Donald Trump for his comments which appear to incite 2nd Amendment people to assassinate his presidential rival Hillary Clinton should she win the election.

Trump said “By the way, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do folks, though the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know.”

Trump’s comment is an example of using language to incite violent or terrorist acts by an unpredictable individual. John Thune, because he has endorsed Trump, should immediately repudiate Trump.

Mr. Williams issued the following statement:

“Trump’s comments remind me of Sarah Palin in 2011 when she said ‘Don’t retreat! Instead – RELOAD!’  Shortly after, a gunman fired several shots at a political rally wounding Gabby Gifford and killing six others. Trump’s comments are actually dangerous. This is not the first time he has incited violence during his rallies and this latest example, if said by an ordinary citizen would land him in jail. Unlike Hillary Clinton who has been accused, investigated and exonerated, Trump actually appears to have broken the law. John Thune should be ashamed of his endorsement of this unfit candidate and at the very least should publicly repudiate this disgraceful and dangerous rhetoric.”

Jay Williams is a Yankton businessman who announced his candidacy to challenge Senator Thune for his US Senate seat in this fall’s election. Questions may be directed to his campaign press email: press@jaywilliams2016.com.
