Mutually Assured Destruction Entertains at Way Park Thursday Evening

Custer City and Custer Area Arts Council 2016 Summer Music in Way Park

The group M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction) was the first to entertain at Way Park in Custer, SD Thursday evening. A combination of equipment glitches and rain showers were trying to derail the first half of the nights entertainment. This was a young group, unpolished, but as with most groups, things start to jell and get on track, or not.Because of time constraints, I had to listen and run, but there were moments when everything came together and the potential was there. It’s a great idea to expose young musicians to an audience other than their peers. Public music is a place when no gold stars are handed out. The audience is the judge and jury and they are the ones you have to connect with , they will encourage you to hone your craft, become a better musician or find another line of expression.

As Jame Brown would say, ” Give the drummer some.” Alex Engstrom is aware of the rest of the band and pounds out the beat, but every drummer young and old knows – you are in a different world sitting on that stool. Photo: Herb Ryan/Custer Free Press
