Crow Peak Fire, Spearfish, SD
Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Black
Community Information: A Community Meeting will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the Spearfish High School Auditorium at 1725 N Main St., Spearfish, SD.
A 211 Helpline is assisting with providing information about the fire. Residents can dial 2-1-1 to receive information about the fire. They are staffed 24 hours a day. Residents can also sign up to receive alerts by texting CrowPeakFire to 898211.
Current Situation: A combination of dozer lines and hand lines have been established to tie together Higgins Gulch Road, 639.1F, 639.1A, and Crow Creek Road completing a line around the fire. As the fire continues to back down the slopes towards established lines, firefighters will use a combination of firing methods to ensure no unburned fuels remain next to the line. Air resources will be used to support these operations as needed.
On the northwest side, where the fire is contained, firefighters will continue to mop up and monitor the fire perimeter. Although the fire came close to structures in this area, no structures have been lost.
Evacuations: Voluntary and pre-evacuation notifications remain in effect along Crow Peak Bench Road. Voluntary evacuation notices were made along Crow Creek Road.
Closures: Law enforcement would like to remind the public that road closures are in place to provide for public and firefighter safety and to allow firefighters unimpeded access the area. Higgins Gulch Road is closed to the public; resident traffic only is allowed in the subdivision. The Black Hills National Forest has issued a temporary closure order for the Crow Peak area for public safety.
