May 1-7 is Public Service Recognition Week. Across the country and in communities like Custer Federal, state, county and local government employees serve us every day. Despite popular belief, 85 percent of federal employees work outside of Washington, DC.
At a time when much of the talk about federal employees is biased or uninformed, let’s use this week to talk about what federal employees really do. If you check the weather forecasts each morning, thank the federal employees at the National Weather Service who alert us to impending storms. When you use our National Parks and Forest Service system lands, thank the rangers and foresters who help families create lifetime memories. Thank the firefighters who put their lives on the line to save people and property. If you received mail today, thank the U.S. Postal Service carrier who delivered it. DoD federal employees, like those at Ellsworth Air Force Base, provide valuable expertise and continuity worldwide.
During Public Service Recognition Week, please recognize and thank public employees for the important work they do for our community, state, and the country.
